Shikoku, one of Japan's main islands, is located in the southwestern part of the Japanese archipelago, separated from Honshu and Kyushu by the Inland Sea. The island, which covers a total area of 18,789 square kilometers (roughly 7,300 square miles), is divided into four prefectures - Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime, and Kochi. Comprising 5% of Japan's total land area, it has a population of 4.2 million. With a combined GDP of 13.7 trillion (US$109.2 billion), the size of Shikoku's economy is about the same as that of Portugal or Ireland. In terms of climate, Shikoku belongs to the temperate zone (warm and humid) and greater rainfall occurs in the south compared to the north.

The island boasts a rich variety of tourist attractions including the beautiful scenery of its greatly varied coasts and mountains. With its well-developed infrastructure, it can conveniently be reached by plane, railway, car, and ship, making it accessible to anyone, anywhere.
Industry has found a congenial home in Shikoku.
The island is proud to host many innovative companies with world-class technologies. Yet at the same time, traditional and local industries continue to have deep roots in the region. Backup for Shikoku's industries is provided by public institutions focusing on experimental research, as well as by supporting facilities that carry out research and development, assist in the development of human resources or provide information services.

Benefiting from its rich natural setting and long-established culture, Shikoku is a place where people, industry, and nature live together in harmony. And it is ready to stride boldly into the future.

Shikoku is accessible via 4 airports, by rail across the Seto-Ohashi Bridge, by 3 road routes (Kobe-Naruto Route, Kojima-Sakaide Route, Onomichi-Imabari Route) and by innumerable shipping lines.

Each of four prefectures has their own airport. In three airports, Takamatsu, Matsuyama, Kochi, the runways are 2,500 meters long. There are direct flights from Seoul(Korea), as well as from Shanghai(China), Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Fukuoka and many other domestic regional airports. Travel time from Tokyo to Tokushima is approximately 70 minutes.
